November 2016 brought mine and Shelby’s 10 year wedding anniversary. I cannot believe I’m typing those words! TEN YEARS. To mark the special occasion, Shelby and I decided to take a trip away.. just the two of us. He was just getting back from being away for 6 months, plus a milestone anniversary, so we felt like it was the perfect time! We had NEVER done anything like this before. We hardly even do anything special on our anniversary! I was so thankful we had the chance to do this sweet little trip!
We spent our anniversary in Missouri at a BEAUTIFUL resort called Big Cedar Lodge. We stayed in the cutest little cabin with it’s own fireplace and kitchen and it even had a Christmas tree! Since it was so close to December, the entire place was decorated. It was beautiful! The people at Big Cedar made us feel so special. They brought us treats almost every night, and even gave us a bottle of wine and wine glasses as a little gift for our anniversary. We felt like we could have stayed there forever!
Every night someone would come to our cabin and bring us cookies. Along with the cookies, they would give us the recipe to make them ourselves. One night we weren’t in the cabin, so they did a turn down service on our bed and left the cookies near our pillow.
We relaxed so much and just enjoyed some quiet time to ourselves to explore the resort. For breakfast most mornings, we went to this cute little place called Truman Cafe to eat. I loved it!
The grounds of the resort are BEAUTIFUL! (I cannot stop saying that) They had the cutest little church that some use for weddings. I couldn’t imagine!
We went to a place called Top of the Rock which has a really nice golf course (which Shelby LOVED) and restaurants and shops. We took a golf cart ride around the area and through a cave, we had the best time!
One thing that was so special about this trip is that I got to meet a friend, (who lives near where we stayed) that I’ve known for YEARS, for the first time in real life. I met her when we were living in Hawaii, and we were there for 4 years then we moved to Mississippi and have been here a little over 2 years, but we never had the chance to actually meet. She heard we were going to be in the area and she invited us to church. I am so thankful for the opportunity to meet her and her sweet family and attend church with her! Her and her husband recommended Lambert’s to us for lunch, and oh my goodness.. SO delicious!
I’m so thankful that Shelby and I were able to take this trip. We really need to do more things for ourselves like this. Sometimes we may go a whole year without a date night. Hopefully this year we can do better about that!
