Today I start a brand new job. It’s a new job within my same department, which I’m so thankful for. I love my office, the location, and my friends. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to move up within my department!
I started out as a temporary / intermittent worker. My desk was a little desk that could only hold a computer and my notebook. It was located in the corner of someone else’s office suite. I shared the space with student workers who came and went at different times. When I think back to that time, I had no idea I’d be where I am now.
About two years ago I was hired on full time as an office associate within my department. I eventually had my own full size desk within a different office suite, and then moved in to my own office – which I absolutely love. I had no intentions of looking for a new job or a new position. An opening became available in our department, and a couple people came to talk to me about applying for the position. I frantically updated my resume, contacted some people for recommendation letters (I appreciate these people so much.. true friends and coworkers), applied for the job, interviewed for the job, and let God do the rest.
My new title is Contracts and Grants Specialist. It’s a mix between someone who handles contracts and grants and the business manager for our department. Our department is small, so I will do both. This is such a HUGE step up for me, and the experience I’m going to gain in this position is something I am so thankful for. Hopefully by doing this job, gaining the experience and the knowledge that comes along with it, and finishing up my MBA (which may take forever), I can have great job opportunities come my way in the future.
Piece by piece I feel like God is preparing our family for something new and wonderful. Looking back, I can see the little pieces he’s laid down so far. Things we never expected, or planned. Things that I am so excited about moving forward. Hopefully some day soon I can share more about that. In the meantime, we are just praying about it and hopeful for the future! 2017 is shaping up to be a great year.
