Happy Summer, friends. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. Of course, life goes on and we’ve had a few new things happen while I was away.
School finished up the end of May, and then we packed Tristan and Kate up and sent them to their grandparents house for about 6 weeks. During that time, they were able to enjoy lots of fun summer activities, and take a trip to St. Louis – they had a great time.
While the kids were gone, I took that time to get things ready at home for a new baby. I was SO TIRED throughout the last part of the pregnancy, and it took me 10 times longer to get things accomplished, so it was nice to have that time to myself to do that. Shelby continued to work lots and lots of hours, so I spent my time either working around the house or relaxing with Patches.
We were able to fit in a handful of date nights during this time, which was so nice. It’s very common for us to go a year (or two) without a date night. We enjoyed being able to spend some time together going out to dinner and to the movies. I’m happy we were able to do that!
Shelby and I spent the 4th of July at the golf club he’s currently working at. I love things like that – I may not know anyone or talk to anyone else but Shelby, but I enjoy getting out and taking in the holiday festivities. Shelby played 9 holes, then we parked the golf cart up on a little hilly area and watched the fireworks. It was the last little “date night” that Shelby and I had before our new normal came along.
I worked up until the Friday before my delivery. My family arrived on Monday, and the kids came back on Tuesday. Wednesday morning, July 11, we took off for the hospital to meet our newest little Tucci. She came later that day and was absolutely perfect. Her delivery was sort of hard on me in the beginning, but once things got moving it was minutes and then she was ready to arrive. They got me prepped and we were waiting on the Dr. to come in, I happened to cough a tiny cough (the contractions made me cough ..) and there she came! The nurse said “wait!” and I said “I’m not doing anything!” haha! The sweet nurse ended up delivering her right there. We were so happy to see her sweet little face. My Dr arrived a few minutes later. She is the sweetest friend, and I was so excited to have her as my Dr and to deliver Harper.. BUT – Harper just couldn’t wait for her to get there. haha.
We are settling in to life with a newborn. Sometimes I feel like I have no clue what I’m doing, and then other times things will click and I will think “Oh yeah, I remember this“. Today I went back to work for 1/2 the day – some things cannot wait until my maternity leave is over. It felt good to be productive there for a little bit, and even better to leave and come home to my littles (and Shelby).
Maybe my million dollar check will arrive in the mail soon, and I can just stay home with them all the time.
I have so much more I could say about Harper and our life now, but I will save that for another day. We are tired, but we are happy.
