Well, I have some happy news. My husband is home! Some of you know that Shelby has been gone for 6 months working in Seattle. Probably more of you don’t know that he’s been gone. I was afraid to advertise to the world that “Hey Guys! I’m home alone.. my husband is thousands of miles away!” so I only told a handful of people and I’ve just been trying to live life as normal as possible since then.
It started out fairly easy, then it got harder as time passed. It’s mostly my fault. I guess I thought that being a single parent to two children, who attend two different schools, while working 40 hours a week wasn’t enough to tackle … so I decided to take a class this semester as well. BAD IDEA. Second grade common core math homework + college level Finance homework do NOT mix. You’d probably be surprised to hear which homework was harder. (maybe not too surprised if you have a 2nd grader). BUT – we survived! Sadly, there are no medals or ribbons for surviving… haha
Shelby is so happy to be home, and we are so happy to have him home. I know it was hard on him to be thousands of miles away from his family, especially being away from the kids. I don’t think I could do it. Six months is a long time to be away from family, especially children. They grow and change so fast, it’s almost like you’ve missed twice as long. I hate that he had to miss that precious time with them. Again, he survived and he gained lots of great experience in the process. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for good opportunities and for what God is showing us to do, and that’s what our family did. It was worth it.
Now that Shelby is home, I have officially retired from parenting… for at least 3.5 months. I’ve also retired from cleaning the house, taking out the trash, doing the laundry, visiting the grocery store, battling carpool, and I very happily pass the 2nd grade common core math homework torch as well. Just kidding .. I’m a mom. Mom’s don’t retire. (I don’t really want to anyways)
I will say, I’m just happy to have my helper back. We help each other, we are a team.. “Team Tucci”. Thankful for him and so thankful he’s home. Now to make up for lost time with lots of family movie nights, lego building competitions, playground playtime, video games, and Oh.. 2nd grade common core math homework.
