It’s been a while since I’ve posted, I guess I took an unintentional break to just do life a little bit. haha. Someone was asking me about my blog and what it was about and towards the end of me explaining it to them, I said “it started out as a place for me to share our life and my family could keep up.. because we were away from home and we moved a lot”. That’s why this blog started, and I miss that! Lately blogs are so different than what they used to be. They’re scripted I think. I want to share about our life, my faith, my favorite things, my health journey, my kids, our jobs, our goals.. and everything in between. I want this to be a place where we can share the good and bad things happening in our lives, and my family and friends can read and keep up with us. SO, hopefully I can bring it back to the basics in that way!
I thought I’d just do a “what’s up with us” post to get myself back in to blogging. 🙂
Kate is about to graduate pre-school. She will start kindergarten this fall. She has a late birthday, so she missed the cutoff to start kindergarten by 1 month last year. She’s so tall, and she’s older now, and I hate that she’s just now starting kindergarten – but I know this will be so good for her. She’s been in pre-school since she was 2, and she’s been in the kindergarten prep class for 2 years now, so if anyone is prepared to go to kindergarten, I’d say she is! It will be an adjustment for her, since she’s been at her current school for as long as her little mind can remember .. with the same little group of friends.. but I’m so excited for her! We have a favorite teacher that we are PRAYING she will get. We aren’t allowed to request teachers here, but we would be so thankful if she could be placed in her class.
Shelby is about to finish up this semester of classes, and he will be working at a golf course during the summer. He won’t be in Seattle this time (whew).. but will only be about 20-25 minutes away! I’m sooooo thankful he was able to nail down this job for the summer. Jobs like this allow him to make connections, and continue to make a good name for himself. He’s such a hard worker, and I know that anywhere he goes they are lucky to have him. We are really thankful for the opportunities that we are given here in Mississippi. We are so happy that Shelby decided to pursue his PGA through a university. With all of that being said, we are so ready to be done..haha. Not much longer to go, and we are so excited to plan for the future and to see where life takes us!
Tristan is doing a lot better in school. This year has been SO rough for him (and for us). After Spring Break his teacher quit her job, so Tristan and the rest of his classmates were split up among the remaining 2nd grade classrooms. This new teacher has a different personality, and is more of what he needs in a teacher I think. His grades are improving, and he WANTS to go to school again! We are feeling so thankful!
February 1 I started a new job. I’m still in the same department, same building, same office – but different title. I went from being an Office Associate to what we call a Contract & Grant Specialist. That’s basically a fancy term for Business Manager..haha. Our state has had to deal with some major budget cuts, so my old position is on hold right now. During this holding period, I’m doing my old job and my new job at the same time. Some days it’s really tough, and I’m trying my best to keep my head above water. I like things to be perfect, and it’s hard to do that when you’re doing two full time jobs at the same time. I can only give 50% to each, and I stress about things falling through the cracks. It’s also hard to learn my new job well, when I can’t focus 100% on it. I know this is just a phase, and this will pass, and these times will be a distant memory! I can’t help but just be SO VERY THANKFUL for the opportunity I was given in this new position. I’m also so thankful that my co-workers and Director trust me enough to manage both positions. I just hope that I can keep my attitude in the right place, and my stress levels low, and I can really prove myself to be a hard worker for the department.
We are currently in “debt payoff mode”. With this new position, came a new salary. (Praise Jesus!) We are doing so much better financially and these past two and a half months we have been able to come up with a plan for the future.. financially. We had a little help from Volkswagen due to their lawsuit for their diesel cars and emissions. I had a VW Passat TDI, and we actually had to turn it back in because they recalled our car. Since they took my car, I had to get a new car.. so we bought a used SUV that we LOVE. We have already paid the new car off, and we are working on paying off the debt we have racked up during college and internships so far. We are still living like we are poor (haha) but we are putting almost all of our money towards debt and towards a vacation we plan to take once Shelby graduates. We have no car payments and we have our emergency fund established, we have money set back for Kate’s school tuition through the rest of the year, we take almost all of our money and “put it somewhere” but it’s working for us so far. I’m so excited to have this little bit of freedom that we have now. I can’t wait until it’s a bigger freedom and we are debt free!
We are so excited for summer. Last year Shelby was gone, and the kids and I did just about anything and everything to keep ourselves busy. This year he’s home, and I hope we can have another great summer as a family! We have our little inflatable pool, water balloons, freeze pops, bottled water, and lots and lots of plans so far. haha. We hope to make a trip to the zoo and some point, and spend lots of time outside having fun. Tristan gets to participate in a summer program in our town that he LOVES. Everyday of the week they go somewhere different. This is his 3rd year to be a part of this program, and we are so thankful that our city offers this!
I’m still on my “healthy journey” with IIFYM. (if it fits your macros) In the months since Shelby’s been home I gained back 10 pounds of the weight I had lost. So right now my goal is to lose that 10 pounds, then continue forward. I’m almost half way there. It’s harder this time around, but I think it’s because I’m not as busy as I was before. I was mowing grass and cleaning house all the time and going to school and working full time and being a single mom.. it was good for my weight loss..haha! Cold weather months make me feel dreary, but the sun is coming out and the weather is nicer and I feel better. I’m excited to reach my goals this year! Slow and steady wins the race, so I’m just going to take it one day at at time and try my best to work towards that goal everyday.
I’m at the end of my 4 day weekend and I’m feeling recharged and happy. I needed this break from work and from the chaos of life. We did some major spring cleaning around the house, and I’ve been able to spend some fun time with my kids. This week is Tristan’s birthday – so starting tomorrow I need to change gears and start putting things together for that. My dad will be here this week too, and we are excited to see him! I’m feeling happy and excited for the next several months!
