A classic recipe from my childhood and a family favorite at our house. So, grab your apron and let’s dig into the delectable world of Oreo dirt cake!
Ingredients:
To create this scrumptious Oreo dirt cake, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 family size package of Oreo cookies
- 8 ounces (225 grams) of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (120 grams) of unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (120 grams) of powdered sugar
- 2 (3.4-ounce) packages of instant chocolate pudding mix
- 3 1/2 cups (830 milliliters) of cold milk
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- 8 ounces (225 grams) of whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip)
- Gummy worms (optional, for garnish)
- Shovel or garden-themed decorations (optional, for presentation)
Instructions:
Prepare the Oreo Cookie Crumbs:
- Start by placing the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until you achieve fine crumbs. Set aside a handful of crumbs for garnishing later.
Create the Cream Cheese Mixture:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, softened butter, and powdered sugar. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Prepare the Pudding Layer:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix, cold milk, and vanilla extract. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens.
Assemble the Oreo Dirt Cake:
- Now it’s time to layer the ingredients. Begin with a generous layer of the Oreo cookie crumbs at the bottom of your serving dish.
- Next, spread a layer of the cream cheese mixture on top of the cookie crumbs, ensuring even coverage.
- Follow with a layer of the chocolate pudding mixture, spreading it carefully to create a smooth surface.
- Repeat these layers until you’ve used up all the ingredients, finishing with a layer of the cream cheese mixture.
Finishing Touches:
- To add a touch of whimsy, sprinkle the reserved Oreo cookie crumbs over the top layer, giving it the appearance of “dirt.”
- If desired, decorate with gummy worms, shovel-shaped cookies, or any other garden-themed decorations to enhance the playful presentation.
Chill and Serve:
- Cover your Oreo dirt cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- When ready to serve, cut into slices and enjoy the delightful layers of chocolatey goodness and creamy indulgence.
